Advanced Ceramics

In Advanced Ceramics we delve into the world of clay and glazes. I teach hand building techniques such as slab, pinch pots, and sculpting through different projects. These projects are used to demonstrate a specific style of clay work, and can be copied, altered, or changed completely. The projects will be kiln fired and brought back for glazing. I have a wide variety of glazes and students may request specific glazes if there is one I do not have. We work on a rotating schedule of two clay project days followed by a glaze day. All finished projects are food safe, as well as microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe.

Blossom with Gardening

Learn about plants and grow them! What plants are native to this area and why do they grew so well here? What ways can we have baby plants grow that we can share or make our gardens better or prettier? Grow plants from seeds and from many other ways. What do plants need to live? What makes plants different than animals? What different kinds of plants are there? How do plants help people and other creatures? We have a native plant garden at our new place that we can explore and learn from. We will be taking some plants to care for at our homes and also will be planting in a raised bed garden on the property. The interests of the students will guide the path of the course. Crochet for Beginners

Enter the World of Shakespeare:
Act in A Midsummer Night’s Dream
ages 10+

We will learn about theater in the 1590s- early 1600s, focusing especially on England and Shakespeare. We will cover topics such as the style of acting at the time, the manner of speech, what they wore, as well as who could or could not act on the stage at the time. We will also be putting on a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which will be presented at the end of the semester! If you take the class, you are required to be in the play. However, if you have stage fright or are shy, there are parts with no lines. Students will help create their own costumes, and there will be rehearsals each week during the class, along with 10-20 minutes learning about the above mentioned topics. I will have an illustrated Shakespearean dictionary to help look up words and terms of the time, as well as a parallel text of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with the original on one side and modern English on the other. By the end of the semester, every student will have a more thorough understanding of Shakespearean times and plays (but they will be able to act without the usual food throwing and jeering of 17th century England).

Lego Presents!

LEGO Presents is building confidence, in a fun way! Each week there will be three recommended task cards that will be drawn by our friends. They will use those cards to inspire their builds and spark their imagination, with LEGO that will rotate. At the end of each class we will work on presentation skills (voice projection, posture, eye contact and fielding questions from their very own audience)! No student will ever be forced to present, if they choose not to. However, it is amazing to see their confidence grow as the weeks roll on! Little Patriots: America's Beginnings

Step back in time and discover the fascinating story of how America began! In this hands-on history class, students will explore the journey of the Pilgrims, learn about Native American cultures, and discover the events that led to the First Thanksgiving. Each lesson will bring history to life through engaging discussions, stories, and a themed craft project that students can take home. Throughout the semester, children will create items inspired by colonial life and Native American traditions while gaining a deeper understanding of the people, challenges, and celebrations that shaped early America. As a special end-of-semester event, students will participate in our own classroom Thanksgiving celebration! Children will come dressed in the costumes and accessories they have created and enjoy a festive potluck meal together. Families will be asked to sign up to bring a potluck dish to share as we celebrate all that we’ve learned about America’s earliest settlers and the spirit of gratitude that inspired the First Thanksgiving.

Damon Chepren - Wild World Experience, LLC
In this double length class, have fun exploring the natural world as we seek out the flora and fauna of Florida, from megafauna to microscopic, and use our discoveries to learn about ecosystems, classification, adaptation, life cycles, symbiotic relationships, and conservation through inquiry-based learning. For the sake of exploring diverse biomes, this class will meet at several nearby nature parks including Foley Farms and Philippe Park just minutes away from co-op, rather than at the church. To allow for travel time to the park, class will begin with 10 minutes of free exploration before instruction starts and will end 20 minutes before the next period. Plan to get your feet wet and your hands dirty as this class is all about getting out and immersing ourselves in nature. Activities will include dip netting, water testing, hiking, catch and release sampling, animal encounters, and just plain nature discovery. Each week will have a theme, but our learning will be driven by what we find along the way.

Future Homeowner Academy

Taught by a professional, licensed, Real Estate Broker with 20 years of experience in Real Estate sales & personal experience in successful flipping and investing in rental properties including Airbnb. This class will go over the basics of how to buy your first home or investment property and several ways to do so on a budget. Basic Real Estate terms such as mortgage, interest rates, down payment and others will be defined and practiced to ensure understanding. We will use board games and worksheets to help keep the teens engaged in the lesson through activities. By the end, students should feel they have a solid understanding of how to purchase their first property and how to grow that into a portfolio that can last for generations.

Granny Crochet Club
ages 13+ (Intermediate & Advanced)

This class is for those who already know the basics of crochet and can read patterns easily. In this class I will have granny square projects for us to make! A couple examples are: an accent pocket on a pair of jeans, a cover for a book or kindle, a bag, and a zipper or drawstring pouch, (which does require a bit more sewing).
Even if the student wants to make something completely different, (not using granny squares), I am happy to help and figure out how to make it happen.
Students will provide their own yarn and hook which I will have recommendations for, but i will provide supplies such as stitch markers, yarn needles, and safety eyes if the project calls for them.
Known stitches recommended: chain stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch. (If theres a stitch or two they aren't familiar with that's okay.)
This class is great if you love to crochet and enjoy good company.
A lot of people think crochet is just a grandparent hobby, but it's not!! Crochet is for all ages to enjoy.

In this class we will learn how to paint with light and freeze time with photography. Whether your artist just has a cell phone camera or a fancy digital camera they will learn how to use natural light inside and outside to create beautiful and creative photos. We will experiment with natural backdrops as well as pop up backdrops and also try our hand at some food/product photography. We will also learn some fun tips to elevate your cell phone photos. Mock Trial

Startup Kids: How Business Really Works

In this hands-on class, taught by a parent with an MBA and real business experience, students learn how businesses actually work - the difference between a product (something you make and sell) and a service (something you do for someone), what marketing really means (getting people excited to buy what you're selling), why every business needs a clear purpose (the problem it solves for people), and how an exchange works (trading something you have, like money, for something someone else has). By the end, students won't just understand business - they'll be able to think with money, understand what adults do and start a business.
